Douglas Farquhar

Douglas Lewis Farquhar, 83, died peacefully
Saturday, November 10, 2007 surrounded by his family at a Bangor health care
facility. He was born August 15, 1924 in Millinocket, the son of John “Jack” and
Helen (Lewis) Farquhar. Douglas worked at the Great Northern Paper Company in
Millinocket for forty four years, retiring without having used any sick time. He
was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Haraden,
DD585 and survived a Japanese kamikaze attack. Douglas enjoyed hunting and
fishing with his brothers and nephews at the family camp known as “Mouse Haven”.
He was an aviator for 60 years, flying his last flight in June of 2007. Douglas
is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carrie (Robinson) Farquhar of Millinocket;
his son, Douglas Lloyd Farquhar and his wife Norma of Ambejejus Lake; two
grandchildren, Paul Farquhar and his wife Pamela of Millinocket, and Julie Mayer
and her husband Daren of Bangor; four great grandchildren, Danielle and
MacKenzie Michaud and Sidney and Benjamin Farquhar; two step great
grandchildren, D’Anna and Zachary Mayer; a sister, Marjorie Moore; three
brothers, John, Donald, and Stewart, all of Millinocket; and several beloved
nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be sadly missed by his best fishing
buddy and brother in law, Earl Robinson and his wife Janet of Holden. In
addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gordon “Deed” Farquhar,
Sr. Friends are invited to visit with the family 3 P.M. – 6 P.M. Tuesday at the
Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where funeral services will
be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 14 with the Rev. Carolyn Bradley
officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Millinocket
Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Douglas may be sent to the Katahdin Area Support
